What is Tuning?
Tuning is the art of calibrating your vehicle’s ECU—the brain behind how your car runs. The stock engine computer is setup to handle your car in its factory form, but if you start adding performance parts or modifications, the ECU needs to be adjusted to keep everything running smoothly. For instance, if you’ve bolted on an aftermarket turbo kit, you’ll need to tweak the ECU to ensure your car performs optimally and safely with this new addition.
Once tuning is completed, your ECU will work seamlessly with any new performance parts, allowing them to reach their full potential. At Lambda, we tailor each tune to the specific needs of your setup. A well-executed tune should boost your vehicle’s performance and reliability, ensuring it can handle more aggressive driving without a hitch.
When To Have Your Car Tuned
Timing is crucial when it comes to tuning. If you’ve made modifications that alter the amount of air or fuel going into your engine, tuning is a must to avoid potential damage. Whether you’ve upgraded your intake, installed a high-flow downpipe, upgraded your turbocharger, or changed your engine setup entirely, a prompt tune will ensure your engine adjusts to these changes properly and avoids long-term issues.
Initial Consultation
Before diving into tuning, let’s discuss your goals. Our team needs to know about your current and planned modifications to provide the best tuning solution. While we can accommodate future changes with re-tuning, it’s wise to complete as many modifications as possible before we start. This approach helps minimize the need for frequent adjustments after the initial calibration.
Pre-Tune Check-Up
Before we re-calibrate your ECU, we conduct a thorough check-up to identify and fix any issues that might affect your engine's performance. This includes a compression test, leak-down test, and boost leak assessments. Addressing these issues first ensures that your engine remains in peak condition and performs reliably.
Road Vs. Dyno Methods
We offer both road tuning and dyno tuning services. Road tuning is a cost-effective method to enhance your vehicle’s performance, bypassing the need for expensive dyno equipment. However, for precise measurements, our Lambda Shop utilizes a Dynojet 424xLC2 AWD Automotive Chassis Dynamometer, equipped with dual eddy current brakes. This advanced setup can measure up to 2000+ hp, 2000+ ft. lbs of torque, and speeds of up to 322 kph (200 mph), allowing for meticulous performance assessments. Our state of the art chassis dyno tuning cell is equipped with road speed air control and can simulate loads at varying altitudes to deliver the ultimate in engine calibration capabilities.
Prices will vary depending on your vehicle and tuning goals, so let’s get started by talking about your goals, and turn your car into the high-performance machine you’ve always wanted.
